wayyy overdue post

TIME TO RESURRECT BLOGGING....as winter break is in full force...it's time to rediscover those leisurely past times started in the summer and gradually lost in the dust of the chaos of the school semester. But as Sarah so kindly reminded me...it is indeed my turn to blog! (after a shameful 5 month hiatus) Let us renew the year with new resolutions! One of mine being...regular blog posts of my adventures abroad in Italy....
But for now...happy holidays with good friends, good food, and sweaters :)

Clothing Swaps and Clothing "Diets"

Hello dear readers!!!

I am here to talk about getting out of our consumerist rut and how we really don't need to buy anything anymore. Yes, I said it. We don't need to buy anything anymore.

Take a look at this New York Times article:

These people are only wearing 6 items for an entire month:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/22/fashion/22SIXERS.html
http://sixitemsorless.com/the-project/

And here, people have taken pledges not to buy for a year:
http://www.thegreatamericanappareldiet.com/

However, there is another solution: CLOTHING SWAPS!
What to do with all the clothes that are still alright to wear but they've been sitting in your closet for years? Give them to your friends!!!

Rather than pledging not to buy or only wearing a few items, why not purge your closet of things you don't need, and swap with your friends? I had a few friends over last night and we all brought a bag of things we didn't want and left with a bag of things that we did want; no longer are useless items taking up precious space. There are two huge bags of clothes left over which I will now donate!

I've had a few swaps, all of which were successful - especially the first one I had at college where probably 50 people came, and I had a ton of things left over. I was able to give items to the African Student Organization, which was collecting clothes for less fortunate children in the Binghamton area. Every bit of the swap was perfect!!!

If you're thinking of having a swap at your school, make sure to advertise and talk talk talk about it. Maybe get a club to sponsor the event and advertise for you.

Gensler Red

I cannot believe there is less than two lefts of my summer internship. The summer has gone by in seriously what feels like a blink of an eye, and I feel like I've just gotten comfortable with my new family. I'm so not ready to leave and it feels like it was just yesterday that I walked into the bright red lobby for my first day as a "working woman." The people, the work, the trace sessions, and entire design process in the real world has really been an invaluable experience.

2010 Opening Night at Caramoor

Last night was Opening Night at Caramoor, where I intern, and what a spectacular night it was! Besides the tiny bit of rain we had before the Gala began it was a wonderful evening and a great way to kick off the 2010 International Music Festival.

Here are a few shots of the reception tent for the Gala:

The day before... almost there.

Opening Night... incredible!

It looked really fabulous, the decorator was amazing as usual. Here's to a great season, and hopefully as the season goes on, there will be more photos!

Round of 16

I wouldn't call myself an avid sports follower, however, with daily lunch hours often revolving around everyone watching the world cup outside in the eating terrace, I'm getting quite excited about the "Round of 16"!
(maybe I just like how "Round of 16" sounds...almost suggets some kind of secret cult activity)
Soccer players also seem to have a more stylish and athletically appealling aura.

Who will you be rooting for??

Architectural Modeling

Got to be part of a 'lifestyle' shoot this week for my firm's recently finished project! Rather than hire expensive models, they got us to model as the 'sophisticated' subjects who live in this fantasy fab life.
First time I had my hair and makeup done by a makeup artist. Quite fun!
Smile, eat, drink, sit pretty, and repeat :)

European chic

Introducing...... our first guest post from Jax!
[I think you should be our official "European branch" photographer for NYCA, because I LOVE your photos :]
Taken while abroad in France, Switzerland, and many other chic European places, these pictures just go to show how effortless girls across the pond dress.
Flowly, neutral, feminine, and oh so romantic.

And those two little girls are adorable.

Coffee house style

I went to a local coffee house this weekend to see an old friend play! She was great!

Anyway here is what I wore out last night, I was getting tired of wearing skirts to work and jeans around the house.

black tank, brown leggings, eileen fisher vest, gladiator-style studded sandals, gold necklace i put together with 3 pendants, bangles, old coach cross-body bag.

The weather here is gorgeous, and I had an evening filled with friends and music, concluding with a walk on the water and playing on probably the best playground ever.

Casual Friday

So ends the work week! What a whirlwind it has been, first week as a working girl in LA (meeting interns, settling into my desk, starting projects, etc. etc.).
Though generally business casual M-Th...the last day of the week is generally when dress code becomes more lax and people "dress down" (though- standards are different from place to place, for instance our intern coordinator told us, when explaining the dress code, "New York City business casual" is "Los Angeles business." And so it goes!

my lazy casual friday "black" matches "black" outfit theme.

P.S. Wanna guest blog? Post a comment or send us a message. We want to see what YOU'RE wearing.

Wasteland!

Cali sweet cali! Back in Santa Monica, I came up on a vintage/used designer clothing store Wasteland. As I had been looking for a sleeved black dress and ankle heels...I found a DIANE VON FURSTENBERG dress (originally $325!...... *drum roll* I got for $40!) and HEELS! success.

Will definitely be returning :)

New York City Style!

Tiffany and I went to NYC yesterday to spend the day roaming the streets with friends. She's heading out to LA tomorrow (sadly for me!) but we had a really fun day!

We ate lunch at Salt in Soho with Tiff's friend Elaine.

Saw the famous sewing needle and button in the Fashion District on our way downtown.
